Ruth-Anne Pai, PhD
Compassionate scientific advising to amplify the patient voice and accelerate research for rare diseases
My personal experience as a rare disease patient enables me to understand and empathize with rare disease communities, providing holistic guidance and addressing specific concerns often overlooked by advisors lacking personal experience.
My approach puts patients first, empowering them to lead research and foster collaborations among researchers, patients, and organizations while ensuring that patient voices and priorities shape decision-making.
With skills gained from my PhD training, I am able to provide rigorous scientific guidance, bridge the gap between scientific knowledge and rare disease communities, and advocate for research directions aligned with community priorities.
About
I am a PhD scientist with 8 years of experience advising rare disease patient organizations. I support patient organizations, researchers, and drug developers in planning and executing community engagement, research prioritization, and patient-partnered initiatives. I believe in the power of rare disease organizations to accelerate research towards treatments and cures. My role is to empower these leaders, providing practical support and tools to patient groups and their partners.
